CIM Training: Conversations with Customers |
In recent months we have
met with some of our customers, and asked thems to speak about their
experiences with Intelitek’s CIM systems. In this newsletter we
share with you the highlights of these interviews. |
Dr. Jacob Rubinovitz, PhD, Head of Robotics and
CIM Laboratory “The most important benefit of the CIM lab is its ability to demonstrate. Although we use all sorts of multimedia in our lectures, nothing is as effective as the CIM system for our industrial engineering students, who will soon be the ones selecting technology and assessing the benefits for their future employers. We can discuss theories and develop models, but only when our students get into hands-on work and, for example, program a real robot and face real world problems, can they make proper decisions. The significant value of the CIM lab is that it gives students depth of knowledge and experience about what really happens in a production environment.” |
Professor Gwang Man Lee, Division of Computer
Aided Mechanical Engineering, “Intelitek’s CIM equipment can be installed in a small space. And, after students have completed a thorough training with components such as the CNC machines, robots, vision system and the PLC, then training with the whole CIM system can take place. That is very good. “We are also very satisfied with the CIM simulation software. First students use the simulation training which is followed by actual hardware operation. In my opinion this makes the training very efficient.” |
Mr. Inaki Aguirre, Instructor “This is a flexible and open system that can support electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics, and give students the opportunity to practice stand-alone disciplines and develop an integrated management solution. Students can study various types of PLC programming in independent stations and practice it in full production systems. On this campus we focus on maintenance and electronics disciplines, and these are the students who most use the CIM system. “We have relations with all the industries in the area. Actually 350 companies participate in the joint program. They take our students for practice and the employees of these companies come to our school for technology training.” |
Mr. Eef Zuurhout, Instructor “Our business students study the business processes, like ERP and PDM. They also simulate it with enterprise dynamics and make decisions on various possibilities in the overall production process. They also look for ways to improve processes. Our mechanical students study the product, and look at how the robots are working, how the production cells are working and how the quality systems are working. In addition they have to ensure that everything is integrated. “It is very nice to see our applications in business but also in replication here. When you look at the system you think the system is old, but this is not true. It is a very modern system.” |
Professor S.S. Mantha, Dean, Faculty of Technology “Intelitek’s equipment is absolutely state-of-art. The systems are unique in the sense that the ability of a teacher to teach with the systems in the background is enhanced, aside from teaching all the aspects of CIM. The systems are very versatile, not only in terms of production, but they are also very good for teaching certain curriculum in CIM.” |
Mr. Elchanan Eilat, MSc “Engineering labs in universities and colleges usually lag behind the R&D labs in high-tech firms. But this CIM lab is clearly ahead of even advanced industrial systems. For us it has tremendous value because it allows us to offer each of our CIM lab graduates a key to a computer integrated factory. Once our graduates reach industrial environments, they are equipped to optimize and upgrade the production floors of their new employers. “With our CIM lab, we were able to prove that it is indeed possible to create a true collaboration between an educational institution and industry. It is quite unusual to create that kind of a partnership.” |
